Flowerland is wholly committed to the principle and the practice of equal opportunities in employment. We believe in putting this principle into practice, and we promote this in all aspects of our work. Outlined below is our policy on equal opportunities. Unfair discrimination does not exist at flowerland, but it is you as individuals who can do most to change or remove attitudes and assumptions that discriminate against other people.

Our equal opportunities policy

No person acting on our behalf shall discriminate in any situation against another individual or group, directly or indirectly, because of sex, marital status, age, disability, colour, race, nationality, citizenship, ethnic or national origin, creed, religion or sexual orientation. We endorse the principle that the workforce should reflect, as far as is reasonably possible, the composition of the local community. These principles apply to recruitment selection, training, promotion, transfer, pay and benefits, and performance appraisal procedures in addition to all terms and conditions of employment. We undertake regular reviews of existing procedures and criteria and make changes where necessary, to ensure that we maintain the highest standards of equal opportunities. Our central employee database enables us to maintain records in a confidential way and to monitor the application and effectiveness of this policy.

Our equal opportunities policy

We implement our equal opportunities policy even before you step across the threshold and join us. Throughout the recruitment process we focus simply on the requirements for the job and on each individual applicant’s ability and suitability for the work. No other considerations come into play. Every position at flowerland will have its own job description and person specification. When a position is vacant, and if it needs to be advertised externally, we plan where to place the adverts for that vacancy carefully, to open up the opportunity to as many people as possible. During interviews and selection we follow standard procedures and we record the process from start to finish, in order to prevent discrimination from taking place.

Training and development

Opportunities for further development and promotion within flowerland are available from time to time. We make sure that our performance management system (based on a documented cycle of reviews and appraisals) covers both training that is specific to the job and a performance plan that is geared to your own individual needs. We want you to progress within the company and to feel that you are doing so on your own merits. In our experience it helps during appraisals to follow clear criteria, so that at each stage discrimination is not possible.

Special needs

When a disabled person or anyone with special needs applies for a job at flowerland we always consider their application based on relevant skills, experience and knowledge. If you are disabled or have special needs, we shall do our best to adapt the job and the workplace to meet your needs.
